In this 1st Quarter of 2017 Evenings Porch has supported several non profit agencies, including San Juan Basin Area Agency on Aging, the 7th Annual Caregiver Conference, Mercy Health Foundation, Fort Lewis College Small Business, and Durango Derailers. We value our communities and give back when we can. Thank you to all of our clients, our community, our staff for making this possible!
The Upper Pine River Fire Department, Evenings Porch Assisted Living and Comfort Keepers® earned a scholarship award to attend the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Remembering When training conference from Nov. 4-6 in Orlando, Fla. Remembering When is a fire and fall prevention program that brings safety messages to older adults through nostalgia-based teaching. Since 1999, the program has been implemented to help lengthen older adults’ ability to live safely at home.
The Remembering When scholarship award allowed these community advocates to receive training that will best prepare them to educate older adults about fire and fall prevention. With this training completed, they officially began a year-long commitment to engage senior citizens in the Bayfield area about home safety tips. Over the next twelve months, the Remembering When scholarship recipients will conduct a minimum of five local group presentations, complete at least twenty-five home visits, and will train new home service visitors who can also carry safety messages to elderly residents. Groups and residents are invited to contact the scholarship winners to schedule an older adult fire and fall prevention training session.
